A dream of a place of our own — built from love, designed with dignity, and created to serve Puerto Rico in a deeper way.
Ann Marie has spent more than 15 years caring for elderly people in their homes, in hospitals, and in communities across Puerto Rico. And in that time she has seen something that weighs heavily on her soul: many people who need more than home care can offer, but who don't have access to a truly dignified, personalized, and human space.
"I dream of a place where every elderly person feels at home — not in an institution. A place where care is not a transaction, but a relationship."
That is the dream. An AMS Care space of our own — designed with love, built from the ground up in Puerto Rico, with the same values that guide our work today.
We don't have dates or timelines yet. What we do have is a clear vision, a committed founder, and a growing community.
After 15 years in the field, Ann Marie knows firsthand where the system falls short. Not to criticize anyone — but to understand what needs to change.
Many care homes and residential facilities operate like factories: rigid schedules, understaffed, and elderly people who feel like numbers, not people. Dignity takes a back seat to efficiency.
One of the most damaging problems in care today is the frequent change of caregivers. Elderly people need relationships of trust — not a new face every week. Continuity isn't a luxury, it's a clinical necessity.
There's a moment when home care is no longer enough, but the person doesn't want — or need — a clinical institution. That warm, personalized, dignified middle ground barely exists in Puerto Rico.
We're not talking about a nursing home. We're talking about something completely different.
Spaces designed to feel like a real home — with open kitchens, gardens, rest areas, and corners that invite real life. No clinical hallways. No hospital smell.
A model where caregivers are assigned stably and long-term. Where each caregiver knows the person's life story — their likes, their fears, their joys.
Activities, intergenerational connections, unrestricted family visits, and ties to the Bayamón community. Old age doesn't have to mean isolation.
Families see everything — they can visit whenever they want, speak directly with their caregiver, and participate in care decisions. Trust is built with access, not promises.
AMS Care has no investors or institutional funding. This dream is built one family at a time, one guide at a time, one shared article at a time. That's how real it is.
